People-Pleasing Is Fear in Disguise

Why you took care of everyone and you're the one left holding the anger

You say yes when what you want is to scream no, and you call it kindness. Gili calls it by its real name: fear. Fear of losing people, which she says is what ends up making you lose yourself. And the anger that never comes out doesn't disappear. It turns into self-criticism, into guilt, and sometimes into illness.

When a Mother's Love Is Missing

You have a mother, so why do you feel like an orphan

You know that you have a mother, and even so there's a longing in you for something that never was. This isn't a mother who died. This is a mother who is there, but not really there: not steady, not giving you safety, not present in the way you need. Gili says you can't demand from a mother what she doesn't have, because she never received it from her own mother either. And that gap doesn't stay in one place. It comes back in your relationships too, in choices you make without noticing why.

Can You Change a Toxic Environment Before It Changes You?

You feel bad in a certain place, and you're not sure whether the problem is you or the environment. Gili suggests thinking about it the way you'd think about a plant that isn't flowering: you don't blame it, you check whether it needs more sun or less water, and you move it. A toxic environment changes us far more easily than we change it, and even a good person can go downhill in the wrong place. The first question is where you are, not what you did wrong.

You Come First: Self-Respect from Within

When was the last time you put yourself first

That story you keep telling about the thing that hurt you? According to Gili, every time you repeat it you aren't only remembering the past, you're creating it again, and you go on drawing more and more of the same kind toward you. The one who hurt and the one who was hurt trade places all the time, exactly like a driver leaning on the horn in anger who forgets that they were once the one being honked at. Self-respect starts the moment you stop living inside the story and start asking where you go from here.

I Love You: Rethinking Self-Love

Why you only love yourself when you have an achievement to show

You look at yourself and go hunting for a good enough reason to love who you are: an achievement, a success, something that would justify it. The way Gili sees it, self-love isn't supposed to work like that at all. She suggests adopting the model that parents already know with their children, loving yourself simply because you belong to yourself, and nothing else has to justify it. From there she moves on to places that look completely unrelated: relationships, making a living, health, even the way you react to the people around you. She shows how all of them start at exactly the same point.

Boy Takes Girl

You know exactly what isn't working in your life, and still something keeps pulling you back to what's familiar. Gili Man Wolner says that isn't an unwillingness to change. It's the subconscious doing its job, holding us in the place we already know, even when that place isn't the best one for us. She draws a line between pleasure, which arrives in the moment, and happiness, which in her view comes only from an act of love toward someone else. And when a heart breaks, she sees in it not only pain but a real opportunity to grow.
