Episode notes

Episode 65 of The Truth Hurts (HaEmet Ko’evet): Who Are You, Really? By Gili Man Wolner, Emotional Healer. Helping you heal and grow through Jewish wisdom.

Many of us dream of great success but balk at even the smallest risk.

A life worth living requires taking risks. That’s part of the work we’re here to do.

It’s hard to act without certainty, especially when we don’t have all the information we need. We have to try again and again, knowing that many of our attempts will fail.

Failure is frightening. But do you know what’s even more frightening?

Never trying at all.

Regret will kill you.

We expect ourselves to be perfect in every role: excellent parents, flawless bosses, outstanding employees, and ideal partners. Of course we’ll fail in at least one of those roles, if not several.

Don’t blame yourself when that happens. Stop tearing yourself down; it won’t help you move forward. We do better when we feel loved and encouraged. Let go of guilt and anger, and treat yourself with compassion.

Your anxiety will ease dramatically the day you understand this: there’s nothing out there. No audience is waiting to applaud you. You don’t need anyone else’s approval or to persuade or impress anyone.

The only person you need to convince is yourself. That’s it.

People can spend their entire lives trying to be someone they aren’t, creating a persona they think others will love more. We’re terrified to let people see who we really are.

I understand. But how can you find real love if all you show the world is a persona?

They love the persona, not you. And you lose anyway.

The Creator gives you what you believe in. Wanting something, however deeply, isn’t enough. What matters is what you believe.

We receive only what we believe we deserve.

Your mission is to discover who you are.

Here’s a hint: the ending is already known.
