The Purpose of Creation: From Reactivity to Freedom

Episode 91 · April 10, 2025

Episode notes

Have you ever surprised yourself with a reaction you couldn’t explain? Maybe you suddenly sounded just like your mother, your father, or even both of them. We can absorb old patterns so deeply that we start to mirror them. Something happens, and we react. Then something else happens, and we react again. We move through life putting out one fire after another. This is what it looks like when the subconscious is in charge.

In this episode, I explore what it means to wake up. Waking up means recognizing a single movement running through all of life: the search for the Creator’s love. That is the purpose of every created being.

That is redemption: to redeem something is to draw it out and return it to its source. For us, redemption happens when we identify with our soul, the Divine part within us. That may sound presumptuous, but I say it with complete humility. It is written that the soul within each of us is part of the Creator.

We are born free, and free will is at the heart of who we are. Yet we live as slaves. We like to imagine that freedom means doing whatever we feel like: “I want chocolate,” “I want to hear that song,” “I want him,” or “I want her.” We treat acting on every desire as proof that we are free. In fact, the more we are ruled by our cravings, the more enslaved we become.

What makes someone a slave? The absence of choice. As long as the subconscious is making our choices for us, we are slaves to our thoughts, our feelings, our past, and our impulses. In that sense, we are not free.

Slavery is also a state of consciousness. When we don’t trust ourselves, we let other people decide for us. We hand them the responsibility, along with our freedom to choose.

Real freedom doesn’t depend on anyone else; it depends on me.
